TOPIC 1
In Wide Sargasso Sea, Antoinette Cosway, an example of the Creole class in the West Indies, describes herself as a “white cockroach,” explaining, “Thats what they call all of us who were here before their own people in Africa sold them to the slave traders. And I’ve heard English women call us white niggers. So between you I often wonder who I am and where is my country and where do I belong and why I was ever born at all.” What is the position of the Creole community in the West Indies of Rhys’ novel? How do the characters negotiate allegiances to disparate communities and how does she deal with her European and American/Creole identities? In an essay explain the positions of the Creoles in Wide Sargasso Sea within the different communities present in the novel, providing specific examples from Rhys text and from both of your critical sources

TOPIC 2
In Rhys novel we encounter characters who travel back and forth between locations, social classes, and communities. How does this traveling affect the characters? Are some more successful than others? In what ways is Wide Sargasso Sea a text about being between locations, states, identities, and communities? In an essay consider the “in-between-ness” of Wide Sargasso Sea. As you discuss this notion, discuss how his or her fluidity affects each character. How does each negotiate going back and forth between identities? Must they give up certain aspects of self in order to accomplish this? What are the consequences for each? In an essay discuss 3 ways in which Wide Sargasso Sea changes the master narrative of Jane Eyre, considering the authors choices and offering specific examples from Wide Sargasso Sea. What are the weaknesses of the theory? That is, in what ways does it fail to account for the cyber crime you have chosen? Be specific.

Requirements: The power point should consist of approximately 20-25 slides with the first slide being the title page and the last being the reference page. APA format is required. Fifteen (15) scholarly sources are required (e.g., texts, class readings, academic journals, professional or trade journals, and WWW sources, excluding Wikipedia) for the presentation. I recommend you peruse the International Journal of Cyber Criminology (www.cybercrimejournal.com) and the Journal of Cyber Psychology (www.cyberpsychology.eu) for appropriate source material. Other useful additional links are listed below. Beyond the 15 scholarly sources, the student may use as many other sources of any kind as he or she would like (Wikipedia, interviews with experts, magazine and newspaper articles (online or print media). The power point presentation will count approximately as a test grade, that is, 16% of your final grade.

This is important. Beneath each power point slide (excepting the title and reference list slides), in the section, Click To Add Notes, the student will provide, in complete sentences and in proper grammatical form, full text for each of the truncated items on the slide. For those students who have difficulty with the craft of scholarly writing, I strongly recommend that you purchase an edition of Stunk and Whites brief but concise resource book, Elements of Style, and more importantly, refer to it often.
Subject Matter: The student will select a type of cyber crime (or category of cyber crimes) and research its possible causes in the context of emerging or established criminology, sociological, psychological, philosophical, anthropological or economic theory or theories. The objective of the power point will be to explain or account for a selected type of cyber crime by established research, empirical evidence, logical argument, or established academic or professional authorities. The student will assess the goodness of fit that a theory or set of theories provides in accounting for the selected cyber crime. Conversely, the student will also outline and elaborate on the deficiencies or flaws of that particular explanation(s). The following structure is required for your power point presentation:
I.Introduction (16 points)
II. Description of the class or category of cyber crime you have chosen, its magnitude, and its significance (17 points)
III.Comprehensive outline of the theory or theories you have chosen to explain the cyber crime(s) in II above (17 points)
IV.What are the strengths of this theory relative to how well it accounts for or explains the cyber crime you have chose? Be specific. (17 points)
V.What are the weaknesses of the theory? That is, in what ways does it fail to account for the cyber crime you have chosen? Be specific. (17 points)
VI. Summarize your evaluation of the extent of the explanatory power of your theory. (16 points)

Maximum total number of points= 100

Do you feel that Aristotle would have approved of either of your solutions? Why or why not?

Consider the ethical dilemma given below. Write an ethics paper about it, including all the following information and analysis:
1.Solve the dilemma using any two of the following Three Primary Schools of Ethics we discuss this week from our assigned reading. (Ends based, Rules based, or Care based).
2.Explain the similarities and differences in your two solutions to the same dilemma.
3.State (and justify) whether you feel the two schools of ethics are worthy of use in “real life” dilemmas.
4.Do you feel that Aristotle would have approved of either of your solutions? Why or why not?

Please note that your ethics papers this term will be a great practice for you in doing the Final Exam. Your final exam is an essay exam which will follow a very similar format to the homework assignments…so please be sure to spend some time doing your readings and applying them to your written assignments.

Your papers should be about two typed pages, double spaced. Use the DeVry standard format for the paper (the title page and citation pages do not count among the two pages). Please organize your thoughts, use headings, and create readable documents with grammar and spelling checked.

The Dilemma will be your choice from either of the two following:

Choice 1: Over the past few decades, a sizable industry has arisen to serve the demand for ready-made and even customized compositions and term papers. Many students presumably believe there is nothing morally wrong with the practice of buying one of these papers and turning it in to fulfill a course requirement. Review what you read about plagiarism in this chapter. Then write a several-paragraph explanation of its message for a friend who doesn’t get it. (Be sure to follow the approach explained in that section so you avoid committing plagiarism yourself).

Choice 2: A married couple, both addicted to drugs, are unable to care for their infant daughter. She is taken from them by court order and placed in a foster home. The years pass. She comes to regard her foster parents as her real parents. They love her as they would their own daughter. When the child is 9 years old, the natural parents, rehabilitated from drugs, begin court action to regain custody. The case is decided in their favor. The child is returned to them, against her will. Does ethics support the law in this case? Discuss.
