Lost Cause” Please respond to the following in a primary posting of at least 200 words. In addition, please make a substantive comment to one [1] of your classmates.) The Grace Elizabeth Hale article can be found in my first post. Please read that as well.
After reading the attached articles students should address the following issues:
- From the e-Activity about the Lost Cause (and the attached document), compare the two (2) different narratives about the causes and results of the Civil War that Americans developed in both Union states and Confederate states. I want students to think about why the South stated the war started and why the North stated the war started and what did each side claim that it was fighting for? Why are those differences important in understanding different interpretations of the war? In the article by Margaret Biser (attached) she makes the following statement, “These slavery apologists were less invested in defending slavery per se than in defending slave owners, and they weren’t defending slave owners so much as themselves.” Explain what Biser means by this statement.
