What issue or problem would you like to write about?

Think of a specific problem or issue that you are interested in researching and writing an essay about. This issue should be argumentative in nature, so the topic that you choose should have an equally valid opposing viewpoint.

Part One: Topic Search

For the first part of this assignment, consider the following three questions:

  1. What issue or problem would you like to write about?
  2. Choose a side. What is your view on the issue? What is the opposing view?
  3. What specific change might fix this issue?

Then, free write for 10-15 minutes about the topic you have chosen. Share all of the reasons you can think of for why your problem needs to be fixed. Do not worry about grammar, spelling, or format. Do not edit. Write what comes to mind. Do not research yet. If you are stumped and cannot write what you know for 10-15 minutes, go back to #1 and start with a new topic.

Part Two: The Outline

Draft an informal outline for your upcoming persuasive paper. Do not include quotations or paraphrased material. Your outline should be built from your current knowledge of the topic. You can refine this later when you conduct your research.

Determine objectives.

A live case involves a real-world company facing a current complex situation. Your task is to deduce the logical implications of course principles as they apply to this company’s dilemma.  This live case project requires your team to go beyond simply understanding the decision process and enables you, instead, to make actual decisions (recommendations) regarding the company.

What is our team expected to do?

Your team has been hired by Bloomin’ Brands

as consultants to help them apply a decision process that will result in a solid set of recommendations for resolving their complex problems. Your team should utilize the following consulting steps in your process:

  1. define the complex problems
  2. determine objectives
  3. generate creative alternatives
  4. analyze and evaluate alternatives

Will this impact trade agreements or regional economic programs? Remember to be holistic in your view of the situation!

The Panama Canal is being expanded (widened and deepened) to accommodate larger cargo ships. Please read the article Expanded Panama Canal May Change Tolls to Lift Energy Shipments.

After reading this article, please prepare a 3-5 page on how this will impact the developed nation’s infrastructure and impact globalization efforts worldwide. Does this add to any global inequality? Will it lead to more disparate poverty because developing nations can’t complete with Panama’s advanced shipment capabilities? Will this impact trade agreements or regional economic programs? Remember to be holistic in your view of the situation!

Describe how this system would lead to improvements in particular managerial functions.

Addressing Challenges through Management Information Systems

The types of management information systems used across health care may vary by the setting, but they have in common the objective to streamline and enhance administrative processes and thereby support the institution’s ultimate goal of delivering optimal patient care.

In this Application Assignment, you will explore ways that technology might help address health care management problems with which you are already familiar from past coursework and/or professional experiences, such as issues in human resources, operations, organizational management, or financial management.

Prepare for this Application Assignment as follows:

  • Identify a specific management challenge in health care that you have learned about through coursework or professional experience. This may be an issue you have researched for an assignment in a previous course, but it need not be. (This week’s Learning Resources include numerous examples of these challenges; review these, as needed, for ideas.)
  • Conduct an online search to identify and learn more about one management information system (or application) that can improve performance in this area. Find out about challenges to adoption that this technology might pose.
  • Keeping in mind Chapter 13, “IT Alignment and Strategic Planning,” from the course text Health Care Information Systems: A Practical Approach for Health Management consider the various steps an organization would need to take, and the various stakeholders who would be involved, in planning for this system. What would be some of the barriers in planning for this system?

Then write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Briefly summarize the nature and purpose of the management information system you selected, and identify the specific health care setting in which it might be used.
  • What challenge(s) would this system address? Describe how this system would lead to improvements in particular managerial functions. How would you expect this system to transform the organization?
  • What are key organizational barriers to adopting this system?
  • Discuss the ways in which this system might align with an organization’s strategic goals, the processes by which an organization would strategically plan for this system, and the primary stakeholders who would be involved.

Describe a situation or element of your first, second, third, or forth project that failed or went wrong.

1) Describe a situation or element of your first, second, third, or forth project that failed or went wrong. Then, tell me how you fixed or recover from the failure.
2) Pick one of your projects and describe this: If you had one more chance to make a revision to that project, what would you revise? Think beyond “I’d make the grammar and spelling better.” Think big. See big.

How would you reflect the bond transactions on your statement of cash flows, and how would the financial statement users use that information?

Issuing Bonds

For this discussion, assume the role of a business owner who has to make a decision to raise additional capital. What considerations would you evaluate relative to issuing bonds as compared with conventional financing methods? How would you reflect the bond transactions on your statement of cash flows, and how would the financial statement users use that information?

Response Guidelines

Review the posts of your peers, and respond to at least two. For each response, address any discrepancies between your findings and your peer’s. Seek clarification for any aspects of the post that are not clear to you.

Briefly summarize the nature and purpose of the management information system you selected, and identify the specific health care setting in which it might be used.

Discuss how understanding your behavior may influence how you interact with others.

A person’s physical environment has a direct influence on his or her behavior. Individuals interpret the interaction between the physical environment and behavior in a multitude of ways. For example, built environments are man-made environments and these environments can be structured to promote health. Research has shown that people tend to favor elements of the natural environment; therefore, it is important to include elements such as sunlight, water features, and plants when building a health-promoting environment. Stimulation, control, and behavior-setting theories attempt to provide additional context to the relationship between the physical environment and human behavior.

Tasks:

Using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, explore these concepts and respond to the following:

  • Choose a public place to go and observe the environment for thirty minutes. Be sure to consider all the built environment features and key concepts (such as accessibility, activity, adaptability, comfort, and control) used to describe the relationship between the physical environment and behavior. Share your observations.
  • Observe the individual or group responses to the observed environment. Share your observations.
  • Using a minimum of five of the key concepts, discuss how your behavior was affected by the observed physical environment. For example, was the environment comfortable and accessible?
  • Discuss how understanding your behavior may influence how you interact with others.
