Assignment 3: Community Agency Observation

This project will continue until the end of the course, where the cumulative project is submitted in Module 5.

Develop a Community Agency Observation project that would be of approximately ten hours duration in total at a community organization in your town or city. The community agency observation projects can be individualized and must be approved by the instructor. For example, you could observe international agencies or churches in your community that have English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.

Make sure that you choose an organization where you will be able to:

• Assess the multicultural organizational development of the institution.
• Summarize a few critical incidents during which multicultural aspects were addressed (directly and indirectly).
• Examine the influence of diversity on human services delivery issues, such as problem identification, symptom expression, and help-seeking behavior.
• Analyze how those critical incidents affected your cultural self-awareness and professional relationship, specific to the provision of culturally competent services.
• Apply a multicultural and interdisciplinary approach to generate a proposal on what the organization can do to improve its service delivery in a population from diverse cultural or ethnic backgrounds.
• For each observation visit in Modules 3, 4, and 5, you must complete a copy of the weekly self-reflection and process worksheet. Remember to write clearly and check spelling and grammar because these sheets will be included in your final product. Click here to access the template.

You are required to submit a completed background section of your Capstone.

you will be asked to submit a brief paragraph, the paragraph should be approximately 5-7 sentences. Each paragraph is worth 15 points, Included in it should be:

The full title of the reading and the author’s name

Is there a nature component, or nurture component or both in the article? Select a fact, research finding or quote used in the article that is illustrative of nature or nurture and state it: ie “like we all have genes from each of our parents”

Then TIE your statement, fact, etc. to nature or nurture.

Now that you have read, discussed, and reflected on the work of five theorists focused on students’ cognitive and moral development, it is time to begin to think about how this influences learning in the classroom in context.

Write a 2- to 3-page paper exploring how the critical ideas of a chosen theorist are impacted by or impacting (positively or negatively) a current contextual issue in learning and schooling.

• Choose one of the five theorists you studied this week and a key concept of his/her work that you want to consider.
• Identify a topical issue that is relevant to learning today (e.g., one-to-one technology, poverty, standards such as the Common Core, anti-bullying programs). Explore how the theorist’s work does or does not align with current trends and directions in your chosen area. Be sure to think critically about whether or not the theory “holds up” to the work being done today. Perhaps the theory is out of date or perhaps educators are headed in a direction that does not make sense given what we know about learning and development. Be sure to consider how the diversity of the modern classroom may impact your thinking about your chosen topic.
• The focus of the paper is your analysis of the issue. It should include your insights and your critique of the topic. Make a persuasive case for your exploration and be sure to use research to support your arguments.
