Describe the emergence of government controls in the food industry in the early 20th century
The beginning of 20th century government controls on the food supply correlated with the quality of the food supply. The early 20th century food science also grew rapidly. The discovery of vitamins and their food sources gave new meaning to food as medicine. Deficiencies that were not diagnosed as such became curable with the right diets. Nutrition became a new science. Penicillin, first used in World War I to ward off infections, became household medication after its postwar mass production.
